This might be one of the COOLEST shops in our fair city. I know I say that about every shop I visit – but I think I mean it about this one. If not the coolest, certainly the most awe-inspiring. I learned of Plan B when my cousin Carin called and told me her husband, Scott, was selling his cigar box guitars there. Plan B is a Merchant’s co-op and a dream come true for anyone who likes unique, rare and intriguing things.
I headed over there on Sunday to do a little research (turned into an hour long browse) and was welcomed by Tom Petty’s ‘Wildflowers’ album (a good sign), tons of random trinkets and most importantly, friendly staff. I started browsing. Hard. From swords to midevil costumes to old pocket knives and an amazing record collection, Plan B has it all.
They describe themselves as ‘an alternative shopping venue’ and boy oh boy are they alternative. So alternative that ‘freaky deaky’ comes to mind – especially in the ‘Monkey’s Paw’ room (one of my favorites).
A room full of amazing and truly bazaar things from years gone by – curious creatures kept in formaldyhyde, grotesque masks and eerie old postcards kept my eyes busy for half an hour. What was I supposed to do? Just try and stop me from taking my time when vintage clothing is involved, which, they have a whole section of.
I went in to do a little innocent blog research and ended up leaving after an hour with a backpack full of things. I would talk about my purchases but my family reads my blog and their Christmas gifts would be known and that’s just bad Christmas business!
Plan B is a place where creativity and differences unite to form this amazing, comfortable space. They provide rooms for reading or conversing and are looking to bring some live music in after a successful and impromptu jam session on my cousins guitars. So go, everyone. They are open 11-7 daily, are found at 2180 Gottingen Street and are waiting for you to come and explore!

I’m moving in.
