KTW Jewelry Design Photo Shoot : Behind The Scenes

My dear and closest friend KTW and I worked on our 2nd annual photo shoot yesterday. We had models, snacks, cameras, make up, lights and ACTION. Oh my. It was the sweetest day filled with collaboration, coffee and lots of laughs and creative input. Here are some behind the scenes from the day featuring the lovely Najet, Sasha, Laura May, Lily, Mieke  and KTW herself.

Elsie’s: Why I Love You (in photos)

If you live in Halifax and consider yourself an ‘avid shopper’, there’s no doubt in my mind you’ve become friends with Elsie’s, the consignment shop on Queen Street. If not for the clothing, the decor in this spot could not be any more full of sweetness. Every nook full of sweet trinkets, every cranny with a stack of miniature books or squirrel figurines. If you’re from out of town and are here for a visit, do not let your trip go by without a stop into Elsie’s, the sweetest shop in town.

Good Things Come In 3′s

The theme of my life right now is ‘awesome’. I am starting a new job in two weeks, my sister surprised and treated me to a massage (SHE’S MOVING HERE) and my boss’s sweet daughter Taylor made me this awesome embroidered bracelet. What more can a girl ask for? I put it on IMMEDIATELY and revisited some lovely teenaged memories. Thank you so much, Taylor! I love it.

Ma’ Curves is KICKIN!

I’m really tired of hearing people say “If you’re a big bitch, you shouldn’t be wearin tight clothes” ExCUUUUUse you-ME! Are you buying my clothes? Are you the one wearing them? Do you HAVE to be in up in my zone eye-rapin me? No! It’s simple. Funny thing about the neck is, it pivots. If you don’t like my look, you can just TURN ya head the fuck around. I wear a size 16. Sure I could go buy a size 18 or 20 tent, but I prefer a more fitted look. I rock leggings, with a tight sweater-dress and belt. Or I got on my tight lycra jeans & fitted top. If I go out, I may wear a short – yes short -dress or skirt. I don’t fuck around wit mu-mus, sorry. A lot of big girls, still like to have fashion sense. I KNOW I look good too when men be all up in my grill, like I got candy for them. But there’s always a few who be like, “girl, dress fo yo siiiiize”. Fuck YOU, I’m doin me. What you NEED to be worryin about is your damn self. Yah and one last thing to those skinny bitches… and you know who ya’ll are who be doin this. You may be skinny. You may be pretty. But underneath I guarantee there IS something about you (whether you wanna admit it or not) that is literally JACKED up! Maybe it’s the big mole on your face, or your narrow-set eyes, or it could be your weird nipples, green toe-nails, your snaggletooth smile. If you’re a guy, you might have a set of low-hangers, a small dick and zits all over your ass or a bald spot. Ain’t no ma-fucker perfect. So when you be seein my big ass on the dance floor backin it up in my performance wear – smile and have something nice to say. We all PEOPLE. Or else you can turn your head on its axis and focus your googly eyes elsewhere. —Don’t Be Jelly

So this ‘bitch’ isn’t the most eloquently written, does not provide beautiful imagery and is certainly a little on the rough side, to say the least. But you know? As much flack as this girl is getting for her bitch on www.thecoast.com, I think what she says rings true. Youlookfiiine has always been about rewarding down to earth, well dressed and put together people. I’m not saying I’m into this girls style, necessarily. And by that I mean that by the way she describes her fashion sense, I prrrrrobably wouldn’t photograph her. However, that being said, why’s everybody gotta be hating all the time? Attacks on personal appearance are one of my biggest pet peeves. As ‘Don’t be Jelly’ states ‘ Funny thing about the neck is, it pivots.’ So, readers, instead of gawking and wasting your time being critical, turn ya neck!

A BIG Review

Big shampoo makes big promises - and it delivers.

A good friend of mine, Ms. Katie Gillis, showed me the light when she introduced me to the Lush shampoo ‘Big’. With a heavy, rough sea salt content, this seemingly exfoliating shampoo is WIERD. But my God once you get that lather going you’ll forget all about it and surrender to the magic of Big. ‘Big’ shampoos main goal in life is to deliver extra sea-salt induced ‘oomph’. Think beach hair. I was skeptical, but you know what? It WORKS. ‘Big’ left my hair perfectly tousled, nice and shiny and most importantly left me looking like I’d spent the day at the beach.

A pot costs $25, a little steep, sure. However, Big will last you for quite some time as I doubt it will be your everyday go-to. It’s a treat, ya know? A treat I myself don’t mind indulging in. Run to your nearest Lush and try it out.

After all, you know what they say! Go big or go home.

Cha Cha Cha – Benefit Does It Again

As I may have mentioned a few weeks ago, Baby Sister Emma spent her birthday weekend here with me in Halifax. Upon her arrival one of the first things she did was open up her bag and squealed ‘Want your birthday gift early?’. ‘YES’ was my answer, naturally. I don’t know about you guys but I’ll be damned if I can resist a surprise, let alone an early birthday gift. Emma with both of her hands behind her back told me to close my eyes, choose a hand and wait for my gift. I chose left, and felt a  little retangular box fall into my hands. Even with eyes closed – I knew it immediately – CHA CHA TINT. I freaked! Besides the gift, which I truly did LOVE, of course, what I really dug was that my busy as all hell sister takes the time to catch up on my blog. The fact that she KNOWS how I’d been pining away for this beautiful coral tint made my day. ‘Nah mean?

Now to the tint. I know I rave all day long about Benefit but I just love it so much. My morning makeup routine is even better now that Cha Cha is included in it. A little goes a long way – I learned the hard way. Once I had the correct amount on that lil’ brush the color on my cheeks was perfect. I even got compliments on the orange-y coral hue. A blush that gets noticed – a rarity and totally awesome.

Cha Cha Tint retails for $36. You can buy it at most Shopper’s Drug Marts and of course online at Benefit or Sephora.

Later y’all!
